No manipulation or alteration?
Today [Feb. 16], secretaries of state from across the country were briefed by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The intelligence community once again confirmed that the tabulation of votes in the 2016 election was not manipulated or altered. However, ongoing cyber threats— including misinformation campaigns— are very real.
Federal agencies and state elections officials are committed to strengthening our cyber defenses. Our ongoing collaboration will be critical as the 2018 elections begin.

Seeing something, saying something
Thanks to the actions of school-safety officer Marion Chavez and sheriff’s deputies Scott Reynal and Martin Maciel, a potentially deadly and devastating attack on our children was avoided [at El Camino High School in Whittier].
As we continue to mourn the lives lost at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School and recent mass shootings across this country, this incident is a reminder that our own communities are not immune to the epidemic of gun violence in this nation. Until Congress passes commonsense gun violence-prevention legislation, it is incumbent on each of us to pay attention to what we hear and see in our communities and on social media. If something doesn’t feel right, do not hesitate to call law enforcement. Taking that step may save lives.
