Andrea Testa, owner of FreeSpirit Yoga in Bixby Knolls, goes under the razor to support children who must undergo chemotherapy.
The Jonathan Jaques Children’s Cancer Center (JJCCC) at Miller Children’s Hospital will be receiving needed cancer research dollars thanks to the head-shaving efforts of Long Beach community members. As part of the sixth annual St. Baldrick’s Foundation fundraiser Sunday, more than 200 “shavees” bared all to raise funds and awareness for pediatric cancer research.
Money raised helps support the research of the Children’s Oncology Group (COG). The COG is made up of more than 200 leading childhood cancer institutions worldwide, including Miller Children’s Hospital, and is comprised of dedicated physicians, nurses and scientists who conduct clinical trials and perform research to identify cancer causes and pioneer treatments and cures.
“So far, I’ve raised over $3500,” said Andrea Testa, owner of FreeSpirit Yoga. “That is half my goal¬— not bad for this economy.” Testa said she met some fantastic kids that have cancer now and some that are in remission. “I was very moved by their courage and determination, and acceptance too. “
