Intake appointments begin July 5 to participate in CHLB Wellness Program, free nutrition classes

Community Hospital of Long Beach’s (CHLB) nutrition program announces its Session 4 schedule of classes. Added this session are family/children nutrition classes for children ages 6 to 8 and 9 to 12. Nutrition counseling and classes are offered on the CHLB campus, 1720 Termino Avenue in Long Beach, and are provided free of charge through a grant from the UniHealth Foundation. All classes are open to CHLB employees and members of the local community.
The Session 4 nutrition class schedule begins Monday, July 23 and runs through December. Some of the topics to be covered in Session 4 include: Principles of Nutrition, Meal Planning, Healthier Snack Options, Nutrition and Exercise, Tips for Eating Out and Healthier Recipes.
Prior to beginning the CHLB nutrition program, participants must schedule an assessment or intake with one of the nutrition counselors. Assessments begin Thursdays –July 5, 12 and 19; Fridays–July 6, 13 and 20; and Saturdays–July 7, 14 and 21.
Nutrition counseling and classes are offered mornings on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays, and afternoons on Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
The children’s nutrition classes will be on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. For a complete schedule of classes and to make an appointment, call (562) 494-0764.
Fitness classes continue with the following schedule:
Low Impact Body Contouring and Strength Training for all ages and fitness levels on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1 to 2 p.m.
Hi-Lo Training, a high intensity low impact aerobics along with muscle conditioning, floor exercises and abs on Wednesdays and Fridays from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Pilates classes are offered on Mondays and Wednesdays from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. and Tuesdays and Thursdays from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Pilates helps to balance and strengthen the body’s core with stretching exercises for the abdomen, legs and inner thigh areas. It also helps with posture by lengthening muscles and aligning the spine.
To join the fitness program, just attend one of the scheduled classes and fill out a health & fitness assessment.
The CHLB Wellness Program provides free fitness, nutrition and diabetes support groups, and offers assessments, preventive services, education, health lectures and activities, as well as chronic disease management to all CHLB employees and members of the surrounding community.
