Pearce, nonprofit solar-panel installer to host environmental health fair

Second District Councilmember Jeannine Pearce and GRID Alternatives Greater Los Angeles, a nonprofit solar-panel installer, will host an event with stakeholders to educate neighbors in Long Beach’s 2nd District about sustainable practices and how to apply for grants to help update their homes.
There will be food and fun activities for families, as well as booths from varying city departments and private environmental advocates.
“The goal is to bring people together to learn about how to make our daily lives more environmentally healthy and to have a good time,” Pearce said. “I am a firm believer that any true change comes from the people, so this event is one way of empowering those who want to make positive change.”
GRID Alternatives is currently helping single-family homeowners connect to programs that help them make the move to solar power. They are a national leader in making clean solar power affordable and in making solar jobs accessible to low-income communities and communities of color, according to Pearce’s office. Since GRID Alternatives Greater Los Angeles began work in L.A. County in 2007, 1,500 families have benefitted from their programs at no cost, and over 300 trainees have been placed in solar jobs, according to Pearce’s office.
The Environmental Health Fair and Family Fun Day will take place Saturday, April 21 from 11am to 3pm, at Burbank Elementary, 501 Junipero Ave.
