The Boys and Girls Clubs of Long Beach and the Downtown Lions Club have teamed up to provide a fun-filled family evening at a Harlem-style basketball game featuring the internationally famous Harlem Ambassadors at 6pm on Thursday, April 23 at the Long Beach City College Hall of Fame Gymnasium (Liberal Arts Campus).
Sponsorships are available for individuals or businesses to make it possible for kids to attend and participate with players who are positive role models and who promote the values of good citizenship, staying in school, staying off drugs and fostering racial harmony.
Various tax-deductible sponsorships are available. $100 provides tickets for 10 children. Players of the Long Beach All-Stars, a “challenge” team of local elected officials and community leaders can be sponsored for $200 each. Major donor sponsorships are available at $500.
Last year’s Long Beach All-Stars included Councilman Val Lerch, City Auditor Laura Doud, and CSULB President F. King Alexander.
For the second year, students from local schools will be treated to the antics of the traveling Ambassadors who feature high-flying slam dunks, dazzling ball-handling tricks and hilarious comedy routines.
“The kids who attended last year capped off their exciting evening by collecting autographs from the world-class Harlem Ambassador basketball players,” said Lions Club Past President Ed Barwick. “We’re looking forward to providing an opportunity for many more kids to attend this year.”
