Bringing the beach

The Long Beach Fire Department joined patients at MemorialCare Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital Long Beach to enjoy “a day at the beach” on Friday, Aug. 3. A giant auditorium was transformed into a carnival-filled seaside paradise with game booths, summer snacks and plenty of “beach bash” entertainment for patients who are too sick to leave the hospital. Patients were treated to arts and crafts, games of Connect Four, fishing games and therapy dogs, and they even had the chance to step inside giant kid-sized bubbles during a “bubble show” from Bubblemania and Company. The “beach bash” also featured visits from the Long Beach Police Officers Association, The Painted Turtle, Happy Face Painting and the Aquarium of the Pacific. The event was coordinated by The Child Life Program to help provide a more positive hospital experience for children of all ages.
