The Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) arrested a suspect responsible for murdering a victim in a hit-and-run incident in the intersection of Market Street and Orange Avenue Saturday, Sept. 8, according to an LBPD press release.
The LBPD dispatched officers to the area at 11pm that Saturday. When officers arrived, they learned the victim was walking in the area of Market Street and Orange Avenue, where he got into an argument with the male driver of a red sedan. The argument continued, and while the victim was standing in the center median area of the roadway, the suspect ran him over and fled westbound on Market Street. The victim was transported to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased.
The victim has been identified as 40-year-old Victor Salvador Herrera of Long Beach, according to the LBPD.
Shortly thereafter, in the area of Temple Avenue and Willow Street, officers observed what appeared to be an intoxicated driver and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. When the vehicle collided into a parked car at 10th Street and Obispo Avenue, the suspect was taken into custody.
The LBPD, upon further investigation, determined the intoxicated driver was the same suspect involved in the previous hit-and-run.
The suspect has been identified as 29-year-old Sokhorn Hor of Long Beach. He has been booked for murder and is being held at the Long Beach City Jail on a $2-million bail.
