The Greater Long Beach Chapter of the American Red Cross, Long Beach City College and the Long Beach Fire Department will host the14th Annual CPR Saturday at Long Beach City College, 4901 E. Carson St., on Saturday, May 30. The event will run from 8am to 4pm. Learn crucial life-saving skills to protect friends and family. CPR courses run throughout the day and may last up to four hours. Select classes will also be taught in Spanish, and classes are available for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. A VICTORIAN AFFAIR
Rancho Los Cerritos, 4600 Virginia Rd., will host a spring festival entitled “A Victorian Affair” on Sunday, May 31 from 12:30pm to 4:30 p.m. Wear Victorian attire and step back 100 years to experience the dynamic era, complete with live music, dancing, unusual entertainment, and even a Maypole dance. The festival will also include Victorian fashion shows, humorous skits, and a conglomeration of colorful characters, including a magician, a fortuneteller and a phrenologist, who will predict someone’s character by the bumps on his head. Music will be performed by The Band of the California Batallion, an authentic 16-piece, Civil War-re-enacted brass band. Cost is $5 for adults, and $3 for full-time students and museum members. There is still time to order a brick inscription to be placed in Phase 9 of the Hilltop Brick Project. The deadline for ordering is Friday, June 5. Pick up an order form at the Signal Hill Library, 1770 E. Hill Street in Signal Hill, or call (562) 989-7324 to request a form. A brick inscription can be a way to commemorate a birthday, graduation, or other momentous event. The price of the brick inscriptions is $50 for one line, $75 for two lines, and $100 for three lines.

Wrigley River Run 5K/10K and Tadpole Trot on Saturday, June 6, offering a flat, fast course through Wrigley Village and on the L.A. River bike path. Registration opens at 6am. HISTORICAL OPEN HOUSE
Long Beach Heritage will celebrate “A Century of Style” with its annual Great Homes of Long Beach tour Sunday, June 7. From noon to 5pm, ticket holders will be welcomed inside six architecturally distinguished homes in the Belmont Heights, Bixby Knolls, Los Cerritos and Willmore City neighborhoods of the city. At each home, Long Beach Heritage docents will greet visitors and highlight the various interior and exterior features and any known history about the home. This summer, children will learn all about daily life on the ranch long before there were electricity, cars, or many other modern conveniences. What if your chores included dipping candles, paring apples, and washing clothes with a washboard and wringer? What if you had to make your own toys? Children can find out what life was like in the old days at “Summer Adventures at the Rancho,” an interactive and engaging history-themed summer program offered by Rancho Los Cerritos Historic Site, 4600 Virginia Rd. Rancho Los Cerritos will offer three weeklong, half-day sessions (Monday-Friday, 9:30am—noon) beginning Monday, July 6. Cost is $50 per session. The program is designed for children aged 6-10.
