LB Red Cross youth department hosts concert to support measles initiative

The Greater Long Beach Chapter of the American Red Cross Youth Department is sponsoring a benefit concert called “Band Measles” to support the Measles Initiative. One hundred percent of the funds raised will go to continue the work of the Measles Initiative in Africa and Asia.
The concert will take place Saturday, April 21, at Silverado Park, West 31st Street in Long Beach. It will begin at 6 p.m. and run until 10:30 p.m. Pre-sale tickets can be purchased by contacting Bee Kong, Youth Program Specialist, at (562) 490-4030. Pre-sale tickets are $7 and tickets will be $10 at the door.
The Measles Initiative was launched in 2001 to reduce measles deaths among children in Africa and Asia. Since 2005 this program has accomplished a great deal due to the support that many have offered.
The Measles Initiative has reduced measles deaths by 60 percent in Africa and 48 percent worldwide. They have also vaccinated more than 217 million children and saved more than 1.2 million lives. It takes less than $1 to vaccinate a child, and funds from this benefit concert will make a tremendous difference.
