As I mentioned last week, my dear hubby Steve recently went through some major back surgery. What we thought would be just an overnight stay at Cedars-Sinai Hospital turned out to be a six-day ordeal. A big thanks goes out to my friend and former co-worker Marie for stopping over at the house once or twice a day to let our greyhounds out to do their business. Having to run back and forth on doggie duty (doggie doody?) would have added so much stress to my days as I tried to do Steve’s job and mine. Marie is a gem and a very sweet “Auntie” to our dogs Sophie, Phoebe and Mimi.
Steve’s at home now and on the mend. I’m working half days— at best— and while I’m at work, my darling Mom is keeping an eye on “our boy.” I don’t know what I’d do without all the help. The folks at the office have been incredibly wonderful as well. They too are doing double duty— as I have needed, and will continue to need, to push some of my responsibilities onto their already full plates.
Luckily, blue skies are ahead and Steve should be feeling better and back to work in a few weeks. Last week I was indoctrinated to QuickBooks as Steve walked me through our billing process over the phone from his hospital bed. What usually takes him half a day took me four times as long because I was new at the task and also easily distracted with other things that just HAD to be done. I sure appreciate him. Not that I didn’t appreciate Steve before, but boy-oh-boy, I never realized how time consuming his duties are— banking, billing and handling all the legal notices. He’s a stickler for detail, and for that I am thankful. I’m glad he’s feeling better and home where he belongs.
This past Tuesday night, I missed the Signal Hill Council meeting so I could be home with hubby. I don’t think I’ve missed more than half-a-dozen in the past 10 years. Nevertheless, I’m sorry I wasn’t on hand to hear all the discussion about medicinal marijuana establishments being banned in the city. Hmmmm!quite controversial, to say the least.
Although I’ll probably be home missing some important happenings, like the Bixby Knolls Car Show and the first two Signal Hill Concerts in the Park, I won’t miss being part of “A Discussion Panel on Local Media and the Community,” an event that will take place on Sunday— see page 6 for details. Do your best to attend this meeting— should be a humdinger!
