Dana Branch Library at 3680 Atlantic Avenue was bestowed a new sign last week, thanks to a recent high-school graduate. Matthew Jones (pictured) designed and constructed the sign as his Eagle Scout project, incorporating a nautical theme in both the sign itself and its posts, in honor of the library’s namesake— Richard Henry Dana, Jr., the 19th century sailor and author of Two Years Before the Mast. Home Depot, Willie’s Tin Shop, hotnspicygourmet.com and Phil Gonzalez of Project Design Services donated materials for the project. Members of Boy Scout Troop 21 in Long Beach assisted Jones with the construction and finishing of the sign.
