The First Congregational Church in downtown Long Beach will be one of the subjects of the tour.
Stan Poe, noted Long Beach historian, will lead a bus tour of the historic churches in the downtown area of Long Beach on Sunday, July 26 from 2pm to 5pm. There will be tours of the interiors of several churches, including: the 1914 First Congregational Church with its exquisite “rose windows,” St. Luke’s Episcopal Church with its intricate “rood screen,” The Little Brown Church on Atlantic Avenue, First United Presbyterian, St. Anthony’s Catholic Church and St. John Missionary Baptist. All churches will be toured with an emphasis on the unique architecture, the beautifully designed stained-glass windows and the history of the church.
Guests will board the Red Double Decker bus at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 525 East 7th St. (at Atlantic Avenue). Big Red Bus (BigRedbus.com) is donating the use of the double-decker. Parking is available and free.
The cost is $20 for LB Heritage members and $25 for non-members. Reservations are required.
