Signal Hill
The hilltop area will be closed to all non-residential vehicular traffic on the Fourth of July holiday. Individuals and families can view the aerial firework displays by walking to the hilltop, but, according to police, should consider attending a show at Veterans Stadium, the Queen Mary, or the Armed Forces Reserve Center in Los Alamitos because the hilltop space is limited.
Hilltop residents who are planning a party on the Fourth should contact Administrative Sgt. Michael Reid at (562) 989-7206 for information regarding hilltop access for their guests.
The department also issued a press release to remind the public that the possession, sale and/or discharge of all types of fireworks, including “Safe and Sane” fireworks, are prohibited within Signal Hill city limits.
Long Beach
Meanwhile in the surrounding city, Long Beach’s annual fireworks show is scheduled from 9 p.m. to 9:20 p.m. Wednesday, July 4. The show will be displayed over the Long Beach Harbor and can be viewed from all beach areas in the city. The fireworks show attracts thousands of people to the downtown and beach areas every year, so plan accordingly.
Fireworks are also illegal in Long Beach, and the Long Beach Police Department would like to remind the public that the consumption of alcoholic beverages on public property is strictly prohibited and appropriate action will be taken against anyone in violation.
