Sixth district office to give away 1,000 backpacks

To assist families in need, Sixth District Councilman Dee Andrews and the Long Beach Ministers Alliance are reaching out to the less fortunate members of the community to provide them relief with a school-supply giveaway.

“We have seen the current economic crisis befalling many households in the central area of Long Beach, which is causing families to experience the pain of undue financial hardships,” said Andrews. “With the starting of the school year, many parents cannot afford the necessary school supplies for their children and we, as a community, must come together to help make their difficult situations a little better.”

With more than 1,000 backpacks to give away, the event will include live music, comedians, dancers, food, opportunity drawings, and a moon bouncer for kids. “The aim is to help underprivileged kids in Long Beach and to assist the families that are struggling during this economic time,” said Patrick Harden of Long Beach Ministers Alliance.

Donations for the giveaway are still being accepted.
