Authorities Tuesday identified a woman who was fatally shot in Long Beach by an assailant who remains at large.
The crime occurred in the 300 block of Magnolia Avenue on Thursday about 8am, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
Nancy Romero, 46, of Long Beach, died at a hospital, according to the coroner’s office.
Police said the victim and the suspect apparently knew each other. The nature of their alleged relationship has not been made public, nor did investigators release his name.
Witnesses said a man was seen running from the scene. Police later served a search warrant at a residence in the 300 block of Daisy Avenue as they looked for the man, but failed to find him.
Those with information about the case are asked to call Long Beach police detectives at 562-570-7244. Tipsters can also call Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
I AM SO SAD THAT THIS HAPPENED TO MY FRIEND NANCY ROMERO. MY HEART GOES OUT TO HER FAMILY, HER BROTHERS AND HER 20 YEAR OLD SON. HER DAD AND HER SISTER. Really? Everyone made that girl feel invincible, like she could do no wrong and let her get away with all the problems she’s caused and all the scandalous things she did. I guess she finally forced her way into the one person’s life that wasn’t going to put up with it. Everyone who really knew her knows it. It’s a sad thing for anybody to be murdered but this one isn’t a surprise. My condolences to her son.

Although it’s been a while since I last talked to Nancy, I’ll always remember her as a nice, sweet, fun-loving girl who dearly loved her son John and was always willing to help her friends. She was one-of-a-kind and she will be missed. May your warm memories of her bring you peace and comfort as time goes by.

My condolences to her son and family I’ve been a friend of Nancy’s for 9 years now and she may have had problems but who doesn’t . She above all was a true friend she was so kind and had a heart of gold she did not deserve to be murdered and it saddens my heart . Nancy May be gone but her smile will linger on .

Xena is well awear of the secret hiding place. That was made during the remodeling of the back house John was hiding in. After John shot Nancy in the back. And Nancy never forced anyone to let her live in any house. Larry Walker was begging for Nancy to live in Xena’s Drug infested houses. And if you didn’t want Nancy living at any of your houses. All you had to do was tell her to leave and let Nancy know. That she couldn’t stay there anymore. And she would have left. But that didn’t happen. She was staying with John. Only she didn’t love him. I’m Very Aware of Xena Izzo’s comments made against Nancy Romero’s Murder. Which clearly indicates her hatred toward Nancy. And it is a Fact that Xena Izzo knew John Osborne very well since he was Larry Walker’s Roommate. And for Xenna to make an accusation that she wasn’t surprised that Nancy was shot to death claiming she crossed the wrong person. That person being John Osborne a personal friend of hers.
