caught my attention
– I idolized —
His witty remarks and charming ways
captured my heart
in a handful of days
My teenage crush
lasted for years
through college, marriages, happiness, tears
Forty years later
he’s gone — now he’s passed
how did those years go by so fast?
He served his city with thought and with grace
now he’s left us
for a much better place
One day I’ll join him
and see his wry smile
enjoying his humor and way he’ll beguile
And then we’ll laugh, or will my dream burst?
