Cal Rep, Queen Mary teaming up to give theater patrons a horrifying night

Hundreds of theatre students from California State University, Long Beach will work as interns this October for “Shipwreck,” the Queen Mary’s Halloween event, produced every year by The Gridlock Group. This year’s “Shipwreck” marks the 15th anniversary of the “Halloween Terrorfest,” when fright-filled mazes and villainous spooks fill the ship that is itself rumored to be haunted. The CSULB student-interns will serve as actors and technicians, working with makeup artists from the television series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. In return for the talented workforce, The Gridlock Group will provide a $20,000 donation to the student scholarship fund.
In addition, “Shipwreck” is offering a special deal for patrons of California Repertory Company’s Festen during the weekends of Oct. 9—10 and Oct. 16—17: with a Cal Rep ticket stub, patrons can purchase a $20 discounted ticket to the haunted festivities. To accommodate this exciting development, Festen’s curtain time will be moved from 8pm to 6pm on these dates so that guests may stay aboard the ship and take advantage of this combination package.
Cal Rep performances are in the Royal Theater aboard the Queen Mary. Festen opens Sept. 25 and runs for 17 performances (including a preview on Thursday, September 24), closing on Oct. 17.
