Dr. Marsha Howard, OD. sent an email to her patients on Monday, March 16 announcing that her office, located inside Costco’s Signal Hill location, will be closing from Wednesday, March 17 until April 1. This is in cooperation with recommendations from The California Optometric Association (COA) to suspend nonurgent and nonessential optometry care for two weeks.
Staff will be contacting patients to reschedule appointments.
“Things have changed rapidly today,” Howard told her patients.
An optometric assistant will be present at the optometry office to schedule future appointments and answer questions Mondays from 10am to 3pm, Friday, March 27 from 10 am to 3pm and Saturdays from 9:30am to 2pm.
The Costco Optical station at the Signal Hill location will also be closed for a month and customers will be unable to purchase glasses.
“COA does not make this request lightly,” COA President Jason Tu said in a written statement to the state’s optometrists, “and it is being done out of an abundance of caution during this historic public health emergency. As health care professionals, we all have a role to play in ‘flattening the curve’ in order to follow sound, scientific public health advice to help limit infections and slow the spread of the virus.”
