The Long Beach Police Department opened a homicide investigation on Tuesday, Aug. 11 after an autopsy revealed that the death of a homeless man found in the Port of Long Beach was caused by blunt force trauma.
Officers were sent to the 300 block of Windsor Way about 7:45 p.m. on Aug. 4 for a call of a dead person, according to the Long Beach Police Department.
They found the man’s partially decomposed body in a “somewhat desolate area of the port,” and there were no obvious signs of trauma, police said.
Autopsy findings revealed “evidence of blunt force trauma to the upper torso resulting in death,”’ and on Tuesday the Long Beach Police Department opened a homicide investigation.
Homicide detectives worked Tuesday to process the scene and canvass the area for witnesses and evidence, according to police.
The man’s name was not released, but police said he was a homeless man in his 50s.
