Long Beach Opera, in collaboration with Panndora Productions and Long Beach Playhouse, will present a musical-theatrical afternoon in advance of the Jan. 23 and 30 performances of Robert Kurka’s modern opera The Good Soldier Schweik. With music from Kurka’s anti-war opera and readings from the anti-war play The Last Days of Mankind by Karl Kraus, the Austrian Oscar Wilde, audiences will meet the unrecognized real heroes or “Schweiks” who are asked to kill while armchair generals are safely away giving the orders.
The special performance will be Sunday, Jan. 10 from 4pm to 6pm at Long Beach Playhouse, 5021 East Anaheim St. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased by calling the Long Beach Opera box office at (562) 432-5934 or by ordering online at www.longbeachopera.org. Subscribers receive a $5 discount on each ticket.
