Man shot and killed in downtown Long Beach; three suspects arrested

A man was shot and killed Thursday, Sept. 10 during an apparent robbery at noon in Long Beach, and three suspects were arrested about a half-mile away.

The man was driving a car with a female passenger when he was shot near the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Fourth Street at 12:30 p.m., according to the Long Beach Police Department.

“Based on the preliminary investigation, detectives believe three suspects were attempting to rob the victim and one of the suspects shot the victim,” police said.

The female passenger gave aid to the victim, who was shot in his upper body, and the Long Beach Fire Department took him to a hospital, where he died, according to police. His identity will be released pending family notification.

The suspects fled after the shooting, but officers found a rifle in the 500 block of East Fifth Street while searching the area, police said. The three suspects were later found and arrested in the 500 block of Long Beach Boulevard.

Mykeel Tucker Peddycoat, 23, Branden Charles Wilson, 28, and Ayana Denae Powell, 19, were booked for murder and are being held on $2 million bail, police said.
