Sixth District Councilman Dee Andrews, City of Long Beach Human Dignity Program, The Long Beach Weed & Seed Program, and Long Beach Department of Parks, Recreation & Marine have announced Martin Luther King, Jr. Peace Week, from Saturday, Jan. 9 to Sunday, Jan. 17.
Created by Andrews, Peace Week activities are produced to promote a peaceful environment utilizing the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and to raise the consciousness of the community. The weeklong celebration honors King’s nonviolent movement and kicks off Jan. 9 with a number of events that include an evening candlelight peace march.
“Peace Week provides us with an opportunity to encourage self-reflection, bridge-building among our neighbors, and provides valuable educational opportunities for our community. It is vital that we share the message of peace and nonviolence in our city, particularly with our youth today. We urge you to participate in some way,” said Councilman Dee Andrews.
