Well, the Sweetheart Sweepstakes is over for another year. Congratulations to all the winners, and a big thank you to all the advertising and prize sponsors. This year we received a total of 728 entries. With that kind of participation I know our sweepstakes was a success— we accomplished what we set out to do— and that was to encourage folks to visit local businesses. I hope you all enjoyed entering as much as we enjoyed putting it all together. Winners were contacted by phone on Wednesday afternoon and evening, and so you’ll know who they are we’ve included their names on page 8.
Speaking of winners, I sure feel like one after being asked to be part of the panel publicly interviewing Long Beach’s 7th District City Council candidates 7pm Monday evening (Feb. 22) at the Puka Bar, 710 W. Willow Street, Long Beach. I was invited by Dave Wielenga from the District Weekly to join him, Kristopher Hanson (Press-Telegram), and Bill Pearl (LBReport.com), to— in Dave’s words— “interrogate the candidates.”
According to the District’s website, www.thedistrictweekly.com, the four candidates for the 7th District seat on the Long Beach City
Council–incumbent Tonia Reyes Uranga and challengers Jill Hill, James Johnson and Jack C. Smith–will debate under press conference-style questioning amid the South Pacific-style kitsch of the Puka Bar in the first of seven Debates At Da’ Beach presented by the Long Beach Press Club.
This event should be a great opportunity to see how the candidates respond under a bit of pressure. Have a question or two you’d like me to ask of the candidates, one or all? Send questions to me at neena@signaltribune.com, call (562) 595-7900, or send by post to Signal Tribune, 939 E. 27th Street, Signal Hill, CA 90755. Looking forward to seeing you there.
This must really be my lucky day— I just received an email bearing exciting news. Some random fellow by the name of “Anthony” sent me the following (the x’s are mine):
