In the first of the winter workshops, Rancho Los Alamitos, 6400 East Bixby Hill Road, will join with the County of Los Angeles Department of Public Works to host “Go Green, Grow Green,” a free smart gardening workshop on Saturday, February 27 from 10am to noon. Guests will learn about backyard composting, worm composting, water-wise gardening, and fire-wise gardening. Attendees will discover methods to help conserve natural resources, save time and money, and maintain a beautiful yard and garden. Although reservations are not required, parking is limited at the Rancho and carpooling is encouraged.
The second session of the series will feature “Hearty Roots and Tender Shoots” in a culinary workshop and sample tasting on Saturday, March 13 from 10am to 12:30pm. Chef Pierre Barit will demonstrate a hearty winter garden menu, and participants will create centerpieces to take home. Advance reservations are required, and tickets are $45 per adult ($35 for members of Rancho Los Alamitos). The workshop is expected to sell out, so early reservations are recommended.
