The public is invited to hear media literacy expert Jackson Katz, Ph.D., discuss “Parenting Boys: 21st Century Changes and Challenges” at Westerly School, 2950 East 29th Street, on Thursday, March 4, 2010 at 6pm. Parents of both boys and girls are encouraged to attend the presentation. Topics to be addressed include: violence in media and real life; the impact of the video game culture on boys; raising emotionally literate boys; body image among boys; tensions between academics and athletics; issues for fathers of sons; and issues for mothers of sons.
The March 4th program is the first in a two-part series by Dr. Katz focusing on gender and the influence of media and is part of Westerly School’s continuing program of parent education. On May 6th, there will be an evening devoted to issues related to parenting girls.
