Lunch breaks for cyclists on Car-Free Friday

Today the public is invited to participate in Car-Free Fridays with lunch breaks for cyclists. Car-Free Fridays was launched last summer to encourage community members to use alternative modes of transportation the first Friday of every month to promote a more active, green Long Beach. The campaign aims to get more people to recognize the global and personal benefits of riding a bicycle or using another form of alternate transportation. Choosing to commute by bicycle, even on occasion, can have immediate positive health and environmental results.
An added benefit of biking to work for the March 5th Car-Free Friday is taking advantage of “lunch break” discounts for cyclists, offered at more than 20 eateries in Long Beach between the hours of 11am and 2pm. Cyclists need only mention the promotion and show proof of ridership in the form of their helmet or bicycle lock key to take advantage of the discounts.
