On Saturday, March 13, the Historical Society of Long Beach will present four stories of women at work in the 1940s, told through the voices of women who worked in the Long Beach area’s aircraft factories during World War II. Each of the women’s stories is unique— some older, some younger, some married, some single, they tell of living and working during the war years of the 1940s.
The stories will give a sense of what it was like to live with rationing of food and gas, what it was like to be earning more money than ever imagined, and doing a “man’s work” eight hours a day, while retaining traditional roles outside the job.
In addition to the presentations, Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske will be signing her book Rosie the Riveter in Long Beach. The event will also feature a traditional tea service, including sandwiches, scones, desserts, and of course, tea.
“Tea with Rosie” will take place in The Historical Society of Long Beach gallery at 4260 Atlantic Avenue from 2pm to 4pm.
Seating is limited. Tickets are $20 for non-members, $10 for members.
