The Long Beach Second Annual May Day Celebration hits the local area Saturday, April 28, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the Drake Park and the Bembridge Heritage Home site, located at 951 Main Avenue in Long Beach.
The festivities will include Maypole dancing, arts and crafts, games, animal balloon making, story telling, face painting, and a food and health fair.
The Bembridge Home site will also be hosting tours of the 1906 Victorian style home, where visitors will be taken back to 1932, as costumed actors portraying family members discuss the home and events of the day. The suggested donation is $2 for adults. Children under 13 receive free admission.
Sponsors include Long Beach Heritage and the Bembridge Heritage Home Site, Drake Park (representing the Long Beach Parks Department), Willmore City Heritage, the Willmore Neighborhood Police Center, Mexican Culture Ballet Folklorico, Friends’ House at Drake Park, St. Mary’s Medical Center and the Long Beach health department.
Long Beach Heritage is a nonprofit education and advocacy group promoting public knowledge and preservation of significant historic and architectural resources and the cultural heritage of Long Beach.
Net proceeds for this event will benefit and support the Historic Bembridge House and provide funds for educational and community programs.
