“Earth and Environmental Science” is the theme of the 2007 Young Scientists’ Camp sponsored by the Department of Science Education at Cal State Long Beach from Aug. 13—24.
The two-week program for students entering grades three through eight takes place from 8:30 a.m. to noon, Mondays through Fridays, and costs $275 per student with a $25 sibling discount.
“Young Scientists Camp brings students, experienced teachers, future teachers and science specialists together for two weeks of hands-on exploration, discovery and fun,” said Science Education Department chair Laura Henriques. Students conduct experiments in CSULB’s science laboratories, meet university faculty and other professional scientists and go on field trips.
Third graders will be “Star Scientists,” learning about astronomy, while fourth graders will be “Rockin’ Researchers,” studying rocks, minerals and geology. Fifth graders will be “Habitat Hunters,” exploring the world’s varying habitats including beaches, deserts and rainforests, and sixth graders will learn about nature’s extremes in “Natural Disasters.”
Seventh and eighth graders become forensic scientists in “Crime Solvers,” looking at the science behind the clues in solving mysteries.
