LB Cancer League gala to help fund research, special programs

The Long Beach Cancer League, a fundraising auxiliary of the American Cancer Society, will conduct its 35th Annual Gala at Daugherty Sky Harbor Hangar on Saturday, April 24 at 5:30pm, with the theme “Imagine The Celebrations, Imagine A Cure.” The celebration will feature unique items sold through silent and live auctions. Auction items include private dinner parties, sporting events, private television tapings, use of luxury cars, and exciting travel opportunities. A gourmet dinner and live musical entertainment will be highlights of the event, with funds generated from the celebration helping to make the theme a reality.
The 2010 corporate honoree is Southern California Edison. The recognition will include employees of Southern California Edison whose lives have been impacted by cancer.
The Mission of the Long Beach Cancer League is to further the general purpose of the American Cancer Society. The funds raised support the American Cancer Society’s cutting-edge research programs, funding 44 Nobel Laureates. Additionally, services are provided at no cost to cancer patients and their families, including medical equipment and supplies, as well as transportation to and from cancer treatments.
The local unit, through its educational programs for prevention and early detection, provides awareness of the disease. Camp Summersault, conceived by the Long Beach Cancer League, sponsors more than 130 children with cancer and their siblings to attend a one-week summer day camp. During the holidays, the League sponsors Adopt-A-Family, providing gifts and food to families dealing with cancer.
