LBUSD teacher arrested for unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor

On Wednesday, Jan. 6 the Buena Park Police Department notified the public in a press release that a Long Beach Unified School teacher was arrested for unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor.

According to the press release, on Sunday, Dec. 13, 2020, the BPPD received information about a male individual having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old female. After an extensive investigation, the Buena Park Police Department arrested John William Gunde, a 46-year-old male, for unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor.

During the investigation, Buena Park Police Detectives discovered that Gunde was a teacher with the Long Beach Unified School District. Gunde, who taught at Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo High School in Long Beach, began corresponding with the victim via an online messaging platform. Gunde subsequently met with the victim, and a sexual relationship ensued from October to December of 2020.

As of Wednesday, Jan. 6, Gunde’s staff profile is still listed on Cabrillo High School’s official website. His currently listed classes include Intro Psychology, AP Psychology and US Government.

Thus far, there is only one known victim, but investigators seek the public’s assistance to identify any additional victims.
