More than 80 doctors employed at MemorialCare’s Long Beach Medical Center and Miller Children’s & Women’s Hospital Long Beach were recognized as the best in their fields in the 2021 Southern California Super Doctors report, according to a Jan. 6 press release.
Doctors from the two local medical institutions were recognized in the report for excellence in the fields of cardiology and pediatric cardiology, gastroenterology and pediatric gastroenterology, gynecologic oncology, neurology, ophthalmology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, pediatric surgery, pediatrics, endocrinology, maternal/fetal medicine, vascular surgery and more.
The report contains two categories, Super Doctors 2021 and Rising Stars, which list the top 5% of physicians in Los Angeles and Orange counties. The 2021 Southern California Super Doctors report uses 10 indicators based on peer recognition and professional achievement to evaluate physicians and find the highest performing and most talented.
“This listing of outstanding Super Doctors recognizes our physicians who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement on top of already being loved by patients and families,” Fombe Ndiforchu, M.D., interim chief medical officer, Long Beach Medical Center, said. “We are proud that our care teams are made up of such respected medical experts that provide our patients with the highest level of care. This award is even more significant for our frontline physician responders who adapted to the pandemic quickly, are working tirelessly and risking their own lives to provide specialty care to patients that need it most.”
The peer review section of the selection process asks doctors “If you needed medical care, which doctor would you choose?”
The report also evaluated candidates’ on their professional achievements and used a “blue ribbon panel review” process, where doctors in over 40 specialties rate the listed nominees.
