FOSHCA invites public to see artist’s ‘visions of nature’ at SH library

The Friends of Signal Hill Cultural Arts once again welcomes a new artist to display her work in the library this quarter.
Lisa Sugimoto, vice president for student and learning services at Pasadena City College, is presenting her “Visions of Nature” paintings in the Signal Hill Library.
As a child, Sugimoto enjoyed drawing and painting; however, not until recently did she have the opportunity to fully explore her creative talents.
Having rediscovered her fondness for art, much to her delight and surprise, one of her pieces was displayed at the Long Beach Museum of Art in an exhibit on community.
In April 2005 she was in a three-artist show at the DCL Art Studio and in Nov. 2005 had the honor of having two watercolors shown in Beijing, China.
In early 2006, Sugimoto got to work with the woman she credits for inspiring her to reinvigorate her artistic talents, Denise Clayton-Leonard.
Sugimoto enjoys the outdoors and finds inspiration in the simple beauty of nature. The environment provides her with a rich canvas from which she is able to capture the essence of life in her pieces. She believes that art is not just a creative endeavor, but is therapy for the heart and soul. She has found her creative spirit and her heart through her renewed interest in art.
Sugimoto’s work will be on display through August and September. The Signal Hill Library is located at 1770 East Hill Street. For library hours call (562) 989-READ (7323).
