The Greater Long Beach Chapter (GLBC) of the American Red Cross, Long Beach City College Carson Campus and the Long Beach Fire Department will host the 15th Annual CPR Saturday at Long Beach City College (LBCC) on Saturday, May 22 from 8am to 4:30pm.
“We should treat ourselves as walking First-Aid kits— it is the paramedics’ job to ensure the survival of the victim, but it is our job to first-respond to them in times of emergencies,” said Jessie Rellosa, who performed CPR on a fellow student at LBCC after the student collapsed from a seizure and stopped breathing during class. Rellosa learned CPR at last year’s CPR Saturday and saved a life two weeks later.
Emergencies like the one Rellosa experienced can and do happen at any time and, for a few hours and a reduced course fee, participants can learn crucial life-saving skills to protect friends and family.
CPR courses run throughout the day and may last up to four hours.
Select classes will also be taught in Spanish, and classes are available for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing. Registration will continue through May 14, and walk-up classes are available on May 22 for open classes only.
Class fees and duration are as follows:
• Adult CPR— $7 (2.5 hours)
• Adult, Child & Infant Combo CPR— $13 (4.5 hours)
• Standard First Aid— $7 (1.5 hours)
• Safe Kids Training (ages 7-12)— $7 (2.5 hours)
• Dog First Aid— $7 (1.5 hours)
Mail and fax registrations will not be accepted for this event. CPR Saturday training events sell out every year, so early registration is encouraged.
