Local longtime community activist Gail Murchison Powell, who died on April 19 in Long Beach at the age of 68, will be posthumously honored as Female Community Grand Marshal for the 2010 Pride Festival.
Powell was active in political campaigns and marched with Caesar Chavez. She was an active member of Long Beach Gay Pride, was involved in Long Beach AIDS food store, served as a church leader and head usher at Christ Chapel Long Beach, and worked as a volunteer coordinator for the Gay and Lesbian Center. She also had a long career at McDonnell-Douglas Boeing and became a steward and the first female president of the UAW Local 148.
Her life partner Carol Radke preceded her in death.
