Dogs, their owners, and pet lovers are all invited to “Hounds on the Hill,” an event organized by the City of Signal Hill Community Services Department (SHCSD), at Signal Hill Park, 2175 Cherry Ave., from 1pm to 4pm on Saturday, June 5. Featuring vendor booths, pet adoptions, contests, activities, music, and demonstrations, “Hounds on the Hill” aims to raise awareness for current laws regarding pets and responsible pet ownership.

“We want to educate the community on pet ordinances,” said Heidi Courtney of SHCSD. “With a pet-friendly setting and several vendors, demonstrations, and activities, we can help spread the word of the law.”
Vendors sponsoring the event include Signal Hill Pet Hospital, Blue Cross Veterinary Hospital (who will be micro-chipping dogs), Long Beach Animal Services (adoptions), Friends of Long Beach Animals, Sudsy Dog (grooming supplies, leashes), Centinela Feed and Pet Supplies, Piece of Mind Pet Concierge, Pet Partners (dog food), Signal Hill Chamber of Commerce, DBA Bark Busters (dog toys, supplies, training), the Usual Suspects Flyball Club, and Signal Hill Community Services (dog tags). Most vendors will share information and literature regarding pet care and laws.
The event will also include food, an airbrush-tattoo artist, a jumper, and three arts-and-crafts areas where citizens can make a braided dog toy, a bone placemat, and a pet picture frame. The Usual Suspects Flyball Club will present two fly-ball demonstrations (one at 1:30pm and another at 3:30pm). A rescued dog parade will start at 2pm; Bark Busters will present a dog-training event at 2:30pm, and a dog contest will take place on the main stage at 3pm.
