Justin Rudd is looking for volunteers to assist with his 99th monthly 30-Minute Beach Cleanup on Saturday. The cleanup is at 10 a.m. at the end of Granada Avenue in Belmont Shore.
The 30-Minute Beach Cleanup, which celebrated its eighth year in June, seeks volunteers to help create a clean and safe place on the beach by removing trash leftover by beachgoers and debris from the LA River. Not only is this the eighth year but the 99th consecutive monthly beach cleanup put together by organizer Justin Rudd.
“Volunteers will be combing the sands for debris that washes up from the ocean and that is left behind from summertime beachgoers. The debris fouls the sands and endangers aquatic wildlife,” said Rudd in a press release. “We are looking for groups, families and individuals of all ages to come out Saturday and support the effort to help make Long Beach’s beaches clean and beautiful. There is lots of Styrofoam, wrappers, bottles and other plastics that need to be removed.”
Participants of the cleanup will progress toward Belmont Pier and the peninsula. Bags, gloves, student volunteer forms, parking and door prizes will be provided. Volunteers are asked to wear shoes and sunscreen. The cleanup will conclude at 10:30 a.m. with refreshments donated by Duthie Power Services and JetBlue Airways.
The 30-Minute Beach Cleanup takes place at the same time and location every third Saturday of the month and volunteers do not need to RSVP.
