There has been an American flag flying proudly at the southern end of Long Beach Marine Stadium for over one year. I have been told that a group of patriotic Long Beach citizens put the flag in service, complete with solar lighting, prior to Memorial Day 2009. The flag flew with pride and dignity for all to see atop the mid-water flag staff erected by the US Olympic Committee during the 1968 Olympic rowing trials held at Marine Stadium.
As stated in United States Code, Title 4: “The flag represents a living country and is itself considered a living thing” and “No disrespect should be shown to the flag of the United States of America.”
For some reason it has been removed without right or explanation. I suppose that this act should qualify Long Beach officials for the Betsy Ross “Wall of Shame.”
