Antique Silent Auction
Mr. Jan’s Antique Mall will have a live and silent auction on Friday, Aug. 17 at 6 p.m. at 1133 East Wardlow Road in Long Beach. Pre-viewing will start at 4 p.m. The auction is to benefit His Nesting Place, a maternity home that has been in business for 24 years and provides housing for unwed mothers. Community Forum
The Long Beach Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People invites the community to attend a community forum regarding the Long Beach Police Department on Sunday, Aug. 19 from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the California Recreation Center, located at 1550 Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue in Long Beach. Special guests will include Long Beach City Manager Anthony W. Batts and Acting Chief of Police Robert G. Luna. Art Workshop
The Museum of Latin American Art will conduct an art workshop on Sunday, Aug. 19 from 1 to 3 p.m. at 628 Alamitos Avenue in Long Beach as a part of its celebration of mural art. Fundraising Hawaiian Luau
The Signal Hill Honorary Police Officers’ Association is hosting a Hawaiian luau on Sunday, Aug 19 from 1 to 5 p.m. at Long Beach POA Park, located 7390 Carson Street behind Lowe’s in Long Beach. Pre-High Holiday Presentation
P’nai Or-Long Beach invites the public to join them on Sunday, Aug. 19 at 6 p.m. for “Once Again for the First Time,” a lesson on the cycle of rebirth and new life surrounding the Jewish holidays. Rancho Summer Concert Series
The final concert of the Rancho Los Cerritos Summer Concert Series will take place Thursday, Aug. 23 from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Rancho Los Cerritos Historic Site, 4600 Virginia Road. The concert will feature South American folklore compositions by the group Nueva. Embroiderers’ Guild Meeting

Films Under the Stars
The Historical Society of Long Beach along with the Museum of Latin American Art are hosting Films Under the Stars Friday, Aug. 31 at 8 p.m. outside of the MoLAA, located at 628 Alamitos Avenue in Long Beach. The films will star actor Charlie Chaplin and will be accompanied by live piano music. The price is $10 for MoLAA members and $15 for non-members. 1920s-style dress is encouraged.
