Lately I’ve been meeting a lot of folks who don’t like their jobs or are retired and bored. I don’t believe it’s the size of the paycheck that is creating the unhappiness–or just the lack of something to do–but rather a lack of passion in their lives.
Looking back, I realize every job I have enjoyed was in the sales field. I love selling. Sales is my passion. For me, there is nothing more satisfying than sharing an idea, service or product with someone I believe I can help.
With those words in mind–I would like to offer some advice to those of our readers who are unhappy in their jobs–find your passion! If you don’t know what your passion is, just think about what you would do with your time if you didn’t have to work. For instance…
If your spare time is spent fishing or hunting maybe you’d enjoy working for Turner’s Outdoorsman in Signal Hill. They are looking for full-time and part-time help. They need sales people, cashiers, bookkeepers and department managers. What a sweet job for those who love the great outdoors. Apply in person, 2201 East Willow Street, or online at www.turners.com.
If you like working with your hands and are looking for a unique and creative career consider contacting Debbie King at Wille’s Tin Shop at 1875 Freeman Avenue in Signal Hill. Debbie is looking for a journeyman or apprentice sheet metal worker. She would love to find someone to share her passion with. When describing her trade, Debbie says, “It’s needed–I look on it as an art.” So if you think you’d like to work with copper, stainless steel or other types of metal, call Debbie at (562) 498-5887.
Are you a “budding” florist or think you’d like to work in the food industry? Why not combine both and work for Edible Arrangements. Those are the folks who create fruit baskets that look like floral bouquets. Veronica at our local Edible Arrangements says she’s in the market for help in her store located at 4102 Orange Avenue # 119. Give her a call at (562) 988-2468.
Do you like sales? Do you get a kick out of knowing what’s happening in your neighborhood? Maybe you’d enjoy working as an advertising consultant with us at the Signal Tribune. We are growing and are in need of a caring individual to join our advertising department. Experience would be nice–but not necessary. We need a mature person who is sensitive to the needs of small business, is somewhat computer savvy and doesn’t mind working in a casual somewhat whimsical (although focused) atmosphere. Think you fit the bill? Call me at (562) 427-8678 or send your resume to newspaper@signaltribune.com.
Remember–life is too short to be bored.
