Two women were killed today and two other people were critically injured in a two-car crash in Long Beach, authorities said.

The crash occurred about 1:40 a.m. near Pacific Avenue and Willard Street, and involved a 2015 Toyota Camry and a 2017 Honda Civic, according to the Long Beach Police Department.

According to police, a 21-year-old Long Beach woman who was driving the Toyota died at a hospital, and her passenger, who was about 25 to 30 years old, died at the scene. Their names were withheld, pending notification of their relatives.

A 44-year-old Los Angeles woman driving the Honda was taken to a hospital in critical but stable condition, and a 30-year-old Gardena man who was riding in the Honda was also taken to a hospital in critical but stable condition, police said.

“While the cause of the collision remains under investigation, detectives believe speed was a factor in the collision,” police said in a statement. “The investigation to determine if drugs or alcohol were a factor remains ongoing.”

Anyone who may have witnessed the crash was urged to call detectives at 562-570-7355, or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
