LBPD checkpoint yields 3 DUIs, 21 traffic citations

On Saturday, Aug. 28, the Long Beach Police Department conducted a Driving Under the Influence/Driver’s License checkpoint at Anaheim Street and Freeman Avenue, as part of its “Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest.” campaign for 2010.
The checkpoint operated from 6pm to 2am, and officers were assisted by Long Beach Police Explorers and Long Beach Search and Rescue.  During the operation, 989 vehicles passed through the checkpoint, and 361 were screened. Three people were arrested for driving under the influence, one person was arrested for an outstanding warrant, two vehicles were impounded because the drivers were unlicensed or had a suspended license, three vehicles were towed, and 21 drivers were issued traffic citations.
The operation was funded through a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
