A large group of bicyclists obstructed traffic in and around the Food 4 Less parking lot Sunday, Oct. 24 and stole items from the store.
At around 1:50 p.m., an officer notified dispatch that a group of approximately 200 to 300 bicyclists were present in the area of Willow Street and Town Center West, police said.
The bicyclists were traveling westbound through the Food 4 Less parking lot located at 1600 E. Willow Street, according to police.
The officer requested the help of additional personnel to monitor the group’s movement and prevent additional traffic hazards, according to police.
At 1:55 p.m., Signal Hill police received a call from a Food 4 Less employee that a large group of people were inside the store stealing unspecified items, police said.
“On behalf of the business, the employee asked for the officers to tell the subjects to leave their property,” police said. “Signal Hill police officers used their public announcement systems to advise the large group that they needed to leave the private property.”
Officers stayed in the area to ensure the large group left the area safely.
“The Signal Hill Police Department is in communication with the Food 4 Less Management Team regarding this incident,” police said, noting that Food 4 Less has estimated their loss to be between $300 and $400, some of which includes alcoholic beverages.
“The Food 4 Less Loss Prevention Team is working with the Signal Hill Police Department regarding situations like these,” police said.
