Public invited to join LB Losers for hour-long beach walk on Saturday

Long Beach community event organizer and fitness trainer Justin Rudd has organized the Long Beach “Loser Walk,” a walk to get Long Beach residents of all shapes and sizes to get out and help shed some pounds. This walk is in conjunction with “Long Beach Losers,” a 12-week team weight lost contest put together by Rudd Aug. 1.
Long Beach Losers was put together after the city was ranked the 11th fattest city in the U.S. as an attempt to shed light on the struggle for Southern Californians to lose weight.
The “Loser Walk” will take place on Saturday, Sept. 8 at 7:30 a.m. on the beach bike path. The event is open to the public and the price of participation is $5 before the event and $10 the day of the event. Check in begins at 6:45 a.m. Walkers will have the choice of a four, six or eight mile route from Granada Avenue boat launch ramp toward the Queen Mary and back. At the end of the walk there will be an awards ceremony and refreshments at 1 Granada Avenue at 8:45 a.m. Water stations will be set up along the route.
Half the money raised by the Walk will go to the Long Beach Losers jackpot that will be distributed to the teams and individuals in the weight loss contest, which ends Oct. 24. The other half of the proceeds will be distributed to the individuals who recruit the most paid participants in the Loser Walk.
The event is optional for those registered in the Long Beach Losers contest and does not affect the final standings of the Loser contest, except for adding cash to the Loser jackpot.
Entry forms can be found at the Runners’ High on 2nd Street in Belmont Shore or can be downloaded at www.LoserWalk.com.
