A man in his 40s died after being stabbed near an alleyway close to the 700 block of Lime Avenue in the early hours of Jan. 2, according to the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).
LBPD officers arrived at the site around 3:45 a.m after someone reported that they were awakened by a man yelling for help.
According to the caller, as they looked toward the direction of the voice they could see two “dark figures” running away.
When police officers arrived on scene they found the victim suffering from stab wounds to his upper body but still conscious and breathing.
Long Beach Fire Department personnel transported him to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds and passed away a short time later.
LBPD homicide detectives came to the site to investigate and are currently working with crime scene technicians to “gather evidence, locate and interview witnesses, and attempt to determine a motive for the assault.”
LBPD believes the victim was a male adult in his 40s and was possibly experiencing homelessness.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s Office will work to determine his identity and notify the next of kin.
LBPD homicide detectives urged anyone with information regarding the stabbing to call them at 1-562-570-7244 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
