A man died after driving his motorcycle into the back of an SUV in Long Beach in the early hours of Jan. 1.
Long Beach Police Department officers arrived at the site of a deadly vehicle collision on Jan 1, 2022, at approximately 2:13 a.m.
LBPD stated that when officers arrived at the area of Broadway and Olive Avenue they found an unconscious male adult in the street with significant injuries to his upper body.
According to LBPD, police began rendering emergency aid until Long Beach Fire Department personnel arrived and transported the motorcyclist to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
After a preliminary investigation, LBPD detectives learned a motorcyclist was driving eastbound on Broadway at a high speed when he crashed into the back of an SUV that was stopped at a red light at the intersection of Broadway and Alamitos Avenue.
The occupants of the other vehicle were uninjured, remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation.
Speed, impaired driving, and distracted driving are all being investigated as possible factors that may have played a part in this collision, according to LBPD.
The motorcyclist’s identity is being withheld from the public until his next of kin is notified by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s Office.
