A virtual public information meeting will take place on Thursday, Feb. 10 to inform the public on changes made to the Port’s Master Plan draft update.

The Port Master Plan is a document that outlines long-range goals and policies for land use and development at the seaport—the nation’s second-busiest—handling trade valued at more than $200 billion annually.

The meeting will start at 6 p.m. with Spanish, Khmer and Tagalog translation available upon request. Requests for translation must be submitted by Monday, Feb. 7 to pmp@polb.com.

The revised draft update and associated documents can be found at www.polb.com/masterplan.

The last time the Port’s Master Plan was comprehensively updated was in 1990, according to the Port. The update is necessary to include previous amendments to the document and to reflect any changes in the shipping industry, manage resources and prepare for future challenges, the Port said in a statement.

The Port released its first draft of its master plan for review in the summer of 2019.

According to the Port, the updated document includes revised goals and language that includes:

  • Reflecting the ports commitment to the San Pedro Bay Ports Clean Air Action Plan (CAAP) and transition to zero emissions
  • A new Environmental Justice and Tribal Resources Element for advancing principles of economic justice, equality and protection of tribal resources
  • Updated goals related to sea level rise and climate changes adaptation
  • Updates to projects, policy language and planning and development goals

The Port will accept comments on the Port Master Plan draft update through March 14.

To submit comments in writing, community members can send them to Theresa Dau-Ngo, Director of Transportation Planning, Port of Long Beach, 415 West Ocean Blvd., Long Beach, CA 90802. Comments can also be submitted to pmp@polb.com.
