A 31-year-old man was fatally shot in Long Beach on Feb. 2, 2022, according to a statement by the Long Beach Police Department.
Police officers responded to the area near Atlantic Avenue and Esther Street at approximately 6:34 p.m. on Feb. 2 after gunshots were reported.
Officers found an unresponsive gunshot victim in the roadway and lying next to his parked vehicle, police said.
The victim was identified by police as Signal Hill resident Nashon Wall.
Officers began giving him emergency care until paramedics with the Long Beach Fire Department arrived.
Paramedics transported Wall to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
In a preliminary investigation, homicide detectives found that Wall was approached by multiple male suspects, at least one of which used a handgun to shoot at Wall while he was inside his vehicle.
The suspects fled the area on foot and then entered a nearby apartment complex, police said.
LBPD’s SWAT team arrived and served a search warrant on an apartment complex in the area, where firearm evidence was collected by the Forensic Science Services Division.
Police said the firearm evidence will be analyzed to determine if it is connected to the murder.
No arrests have been made in connection to Wall’s murder at this time.
The motive for the shooting and the relationship between Wall and the suspects is currently unknown.
