County authorities today released the name of the man who died after he was struck by a car in Long Beach.
Willie Jackson, 48, was identified by the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office as the victim who was run over.
Officers went to Artesia Boulevard and Orizaba Avenue about 8:30 p.m. Thursday regarding reports of a man who was lying in the street, the Long Beach Police Department reported.
“Upon arrival, officers located an adult male pedestrian trapped underneath a vehicle,” police said in a statement.
Paramedics pronounced Jackson dead at the scene, police said.
Jackson died of traumatic injures after being struck by the car, according to the coroner’s office. His death was ruled as an accident.
“The preliminary investigation revealed a 2011 Lincoln MKS driven by a 17-year-old male resident of Long Beach was traveling eastbound on Artesia Boulevard when he struck a pedestrian who was lying down in the roadway,” police said.
“The driver remained on scene and cooperated with the investigation,” police said. “Distracted driving, speeding and impaired driving do not appear to have been a factor in this collision.”
The teen, who did not have a driver’s license, according to LBPD, was released to the custody of a parent at the scene, police said.
Anyone with information on the case was urged to call detectives at 1-(562)-570-7355, or Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS.
