The City of Long Beach is now accepting applications for Cultural Special Events Grants, as part of its ActivateLB Grants Program.
The program is funded by the Long Beach Recovery Act, which has allocated $570,000 to fund cultural events. It started accepting applications for citywide cultural events June 2 and will continue to accept applications until funding runs out.
Along with citywide cultural events, the program will open up applications for neighborhood event seed grants and business activation grants will open later this month.
The program is prioritizing large cultural events not previously funded by the City. Events that receive funding must be free and open to the public and the grant funding will offset the cost of City special event permits and fees. Funds will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis to eligible nonprofit organizations.
The funds will also support upcoming Juneteenth events, Pride events and the City’s 11 Be SAFE (Summer Activities in a Friendly Environment) sites this summer.
The ActivateLB Grants Program will also be able to offer direct relief payments of up to $15,000 to support the Martin Luther King Jr. Parade, Dia de los Muertos, a jazz festival, the Veterans Day Parade and the Daisy Christmas Parade.
The program will provide eight grants of up to $25,000 each to nonprofit organizations planning citywide cultural events.
